Every now and then I get the urge to actually put some of ideas and thoughts that bump around inside of my head on paper (or at least on the Internet). I started to do it back in 2006 with my original blog, which I then revamped once (yeah, that didn’t go so well, one whopping post).
Last time I had this mad idea to write my own software to write the blog in, and to leverage Apple Pages to author things in. Of course today, several Pages upgrades later, none of the scripts work. Since then Sublime Text also has come in and just taken over all my text needs, including the spell checking.
This time I messed around with both Jekyll and Hugo. In the end Hugo managed to sway me over with the built in live reload functionality. It’s like magic now to write with Sublime Text side by side with Safari and see all the pages update instantly as I press save.
All of the source code for the blog is stored in a git repository hosted on the free version of Bitbucket, with a full CD pipeline realized with Bitbucket Pipelines.
So once Google Reader got removed I really had a hard time get the enthusiasm to move to another blog reader and jumped on the Twitter bandwagon. The problem with Twitter really though is that it’s really hard to have conversations. You can really only expect to see links or interesting snippets to actual websites where you have some original content or news that’s interesting.
So here is for having a platform publishing some more coherent thoughts over 140 characters and having replies that can be longer and hopefully more coherent as well!
